10 Best Things to Do with Sand
(child related only!)
1)
Make
a Sand Castle. Add a little water to moisten the sand
and use any plastic cup or container to make a sand
castle.
2)
Make Sand Art. Place colored layers of sand in a
glass jar and add to any room for decoration.
3)
Make a Sandbox or Sandtable to hold the sand and
play to your hearts content. (Parents may purchase one
or make on for a child(ren)).
4)
Mail it! Mail sand, inflatable pool, and
miniature umbrella to a friend who is in need of a
Fun-in-the-sun pick-me-up. Send a card stating that the
New Owner needs to add sun and water for a good time.
5)
Color it with food coloring, add some water to
pack the sand, and make color sculptures.
6)
Use
it to grow cantaloupe or carrots in your garden, great
for loosening soil. Just mix with good soil and plant
your seeds. Water and feed as per necessary and
according to the seed packages, you should have plants
with fruits or growing roots in a short time.
7)
Place the sand in a sturdy plastic bag and use as
a weight to hold down an umbrella stand or folding chair
on a windy beach.
8)
Study sand underneath a microscope. Find out what
it is made of and more about it with the use of
encyclopedia’s or the Internet with a parent’s guidance.
9)
Make a mini-beach. Use a plastic 1-2” box cover.
Fill with sand. Dig a small area for a pool of water and
add in a small piece of plastic bag, cover with sand
(just enough to cover the plastic) and add water. Use
small sticks or toothpicks to create fences, chairs or
other beach items. Use pieces of old cloth for beach
towels and flags. Use small pebbles for lining the beach
areas and near the water/shore. Set in the bathroom for
a while to soak up the beach scenery for a time.
10)
Write in the Sand. What a unique way to teach a
lesson about letters, or spelling. Great way to teach a
child to spell his/her name! Get a stick or use your
finger to draw in the sand.
Please
remember these are for children and have fun with them.
It is the responsibility of the parent to supervise any
activity of any child and provide the necessary help as
needed. Some activities might not be suitable for all
children. Sand can be a choking hazard and also can be
lethal if used improperly. Yes, many children have lost
their lives due to the weight of sand that fell on them
from a collapsing sand castle or sand tunnel. So please
use caution when trying any activity.
