Delicious Deer Sandwiches

1 slice whole wheat bread                                                               shapes

peanut butter/ cream cheese                                                           counting

raisins/olives/peanuts                                                                      fractions

pretzels                                                                                             measurement

Cut a slice of whole wheat bread from corner to corner to make two triangles. Place one triangle on a small plate or a serviette with one point down for the chin. Spread two tablespoons of peanut butter over the triangle. Press one straight pretzel out of the upper point (corner ) and another pretzel out of the other upper point. These make the antlers. Add  raisins or peanuts for the eyes and the nose. Count out 5-10 raisins/peanuts for the mouth.  Cheerios or yogurt covered raisins make nice substitutes for the raisins/peanuts.

Alternative for those with peanut allergies: Spread two tablespoons of cream cheese over the triangle of bread. This could be a great time to introduce your child to a variety of breads such as cracked wheat or pumpernickel. Slice green or black pitted olives in half. Use one half each for the eyes and nose. Count out 5-10 olive halves to form the mouth.  Enjoy!
