10 Best Uses for Water

(child related only!)

Water, Water everywhere. Always a drop for fun to spare. Water, Water playtime here! (Supervision is needed and recommended for every Best activity or idea. Keep safety in mind always.)

  1. Freeze water to make ice cubes. Great freezing colored water or Kool-aide for a tasty treat. Create color art with colored ice cubes. Flavored ice or shredded ice tastes great too and so easy to make! You can even crush ice cubes in a plastic baggie and then flavor with Kool-aide.
  2. Measuring water in cups, bowls, spoons, and other containers. Fun and will keep younger children occupied for hours.
  3. Playing catch with water balloons is a great activity. Buy the special water balloon and fill only ½ or ¾ full only for a longer activity.
  4. Bath time fun! Instead of a wash-to-get-clean only bath, make your child love to take baths with bath time toys. Great bath time toys are plastic toys such as boats, people, letters, etc.
  5. Watering gardens and potted plants is a fun activity that younger and older children can learn responsibility with.
  6. Sprinkler fun. Although this is a big waste of water from the standpoint of the droughts we are having. Every once in a while, I will let my children turn on the sprinkler and play to their hearts content. If you water your lawn at the same time, you also get away with doing a chore too.
  7. The study of bodies of water to include Lakes, Rivers, and Oceans. All children love to learn about water. Creatures that live in water and make their homes in water. Learn about Antarctica or Iceland and how people live with water there.
  8. Plastic slip and slide in your backyard. All you need is a long piece of plastic (a tarp will do just fine) and some dish soap (for younger children hypo-allergenic tears free dish soap or shampoo will do fine). Turn on the hose and keep it wet as you go. This may require the use of the hose constantly or sporadically. The slide works best on a hill. Run, slip, and slide to your hearts content. It is always best to wait until the person in front of you is out of the way before taking your turn. Use safety measures here and good supervision is a must!
  9. Water Theme parks are one of our favorite places to visit. Even places like Busch gardens have water play areas for even the youngest of children to get a little wet. Wet-n-Wild appeals to children who love to ride on mats down through tunnels and slides bursting with speed.
  10. Car or Bike wash. Let your children wash your car the next time. Between the soap and the water, they should have a ton of fun! Let them wear old clothes, make sure the windows are up, and try to use hypo-allergenic soap with little ones around. Get the whole family involved for a whole ton of fun. Or hold a neighborhood car or bike wash and make some extra money this summer.
  11. Here is one to grow on! Add a little soap to some water and make some bubbles. Kids of all ages including parents, enjoy making bubbles and seeing how many or how big they can make them.

Please remember these are for children and have fun with them. It is the responsibility of the parent to supervise any activity of any child and provide the necessary help as needed. Some activities might not be suitable for all children. Water and stunts in water can be a choking hazard and/or a safety hazard. Slides and activities with slippery surfaces can be major safety concern for some parents. Yes, many children have lost their lives due to accidents at home. So use all caution and safety measures as necessary. If we tend to over-mention it here, it is done so with purest intent for your child's or children's safety/life in mind at all times.
