The Task of Multitasking

We all feel like there is not enough time in a day to get things done. We have stayed up late to do the dishes, make lunches or clean. But we are constantly running ourselves ragged trying to get everything done. The clothes will always need folding, the beds will always need to be made, the dishes will always need to be washed. A woman's work is NEVER done!

Isn't it funny how a woman can cook dinner, talk on the phone and hold a baby at the same time. A man can't talk on the phone and eat at the same time!

Somehow we woman thrive by multitasking. If you are like me, you have probably mastered the art. But here are a few of my favorite time saving multitasking tasks that I have discovered.

  • While checking my e-mail I put on my makeup, with a hand held mirror.
  • While Surfing the web and waiting for our computer (we cannot use high speed Internet service with our computer unfortunately) to load, I fold clothes. It definitely makes the folding clothes go by so fast. It takes so long for my computer to load images, I get two or three loads folded while surfing the net. I also make my bed and tidy my room while the computer is loading as well.
  • In my kids room, I help them clean by directing where each toy goes, while I am changing sheets, putting their clothes away and so on.
  • While my kids are in the bath tub I read, clip coupons, talk on the phone, or write letters, or thank you's, sitting on the closed toilet so I can keep and eye on them while they are bathing.
  • While I watch TV, I fold clothes, work out, clean, etc.. Which I am sure you all do too, but here is a new tip you might not have tried. Mostly, the only time I watch TV is when the kids are sleeping, so I usually want to be quiet. I also have things that need to be done in the kitchen so I put the TV closed caption on while doing the dishes, so I can read what is going on and not have to have the volume blaring over the dishes. If you are like me and have a soap you like to watch, but often do not get to, I program my VCR to record it, and watch in late at night while folding clothes. Plus soaps are not kid appropriate.
  • I write out my grocery or to-do list for the week while feeding my baby breakfast. (or while eating my breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day)! Even if I forget to take my grocery list with me which usually happens I have it fresh in my mind and it is easier to remember when I am at the store.
  • While dishing up plates for dinner, I put some in a Tupperware container before we eat it all, and then my husbands lunch is already done.
  • I am sure most of you have a Super Walmart near you, if you do not have one I am so sorry! Also if you do not know it, you can get your cars oil changed or tires rotated, etc., while you grocery shop. You can also get your kids haircuts, eye exams, etc. I am convinced that the Super Walmart is the greatest invention ever!
  • I bring phone numbers with me and while I am waiting to pick up my kids or stuck in traffic (stopped at a stand still) I get some of my phone calls taken care of.
  • I have a calendar on the wall by my phone which is right next to my sink, so while I am doing dishes, I can look over the weeks schedule often, and this makes it much easier to not forget meetings and appointments. I hope these have helped you all.

Go and safely multitask!
