Thank you for visiting Nature Trivia. In this column I will post some amazing facts about nature and trivia that the whole family will enjoy.

You can test your knowledge or play a Nature Trivia game with your children, they are inquisitive little people that love to learn in fun ways. Draw up a score board and see who can get the most trivia questions correct.

Oh, and don’t forget about a reward for the winner! We play with bug stickers, it works great for future Entomologists.

Pollinating State to State

  1. How many states have crops pollinated by honeybees?

  2. What region of the United States uses honeybees to pollinate alfalfa crops?

Did you Know?

Did you know that honeybees have remained unchanged for twenty million years? Wow, they certainly are a consistent bunch. Look how much humans have changed in the last twenty years!

Did you know that it was the pilgrims who brought honeybees over to America?

Did you know that it took 200 years for the honeybees to migrate across the American
Continent after the Pilgrims introduced them into the United States?

Did you know that an adult worker bee only lives an average of 45 days in the summer and then dies?

Did you know the species of honeybee commonly found in the Americas is Apis mellifera, which means honey carrier?


Answers to lasts weeks trivia:

  • Do you know what attracts bees when you are outside minding your own business?
    Answer: Sweet scents, bright colors, and movement

  • Why should you wash your clothes after being stung?
    Answer: When bees sting, they leave behind a pheromone (chemical substance secreted and released by an animal for detection and response by another, usually the same species) that attracts other bees.

  • How many wings do honeybees have?
    Answer: Honeybees have four wings.

  • What is the food fed to the baby queen bee?
    Answer: Royal jelly (only fit for a queen).

  • Can you name two products, besides honey, that bees make?
    Answer: Wax and royal jelly.
