Thank you for visiting Nature
Trivia. In this column I will post some amazing facts
about nature and trivia that the whole family will enjoy.
You can test your knowledge or play a Nature Trivia game
with your children, they are inquisitive little people
that love to learn in fun ways. Draw up a score board and
see who can get the most trivia questions correct.
Oh, and don’t forget about a reward for the winner! We
play with bug stickers, it works great for future
Entomologists.
Answers to the trivia questions will be posted at the
bottom of the page in the following week‘s column.

Did you Know?
Did you know that there are 700 species of plants that
grow in the United States that have been identified as
dangerous if eaten? Daffodils, lily of the valley, sweet
peas, oleander, azalea, bleeding heart, delphinium,
rhododendron, and buttercups are just a few. My favorite
as a kid was the buttercups. We held this flower under our
chin to see if we liked butter. If you had a yellow glow
from the flower underneath your chin then you liked the
sweet taste of butter. Oh, the silly games we played as
kids.
Did you know that there is about one
quarter-pound of salt in every gallon of seawater? Wow, no
wonder my mom used to tell me to go into the ocean to heal
a cut or open wound. Salt has many healing properties.
Did you know that it takes 314 acres
of trees (63,000 trees) to make the average Sunday edition
of the New York Times? Save the trees and read
online!
Did you know that in order to save a
40-foot tree, a four-foot thick stack of newspapers must
be recycled? So, once again, we can save a tree by either
reading the news online or recycle, recycle,
recycle!
Did you know that from a
three-quarter-inch-long acorn, grows a 120-foot oak
tree?
Amazing!
