Animal Groups
Thank
you for visiting Nature Trivia. In this column I will
post some amazing facts about nature the whole family
will enjoy.
You
can also test your knowledge and play a Nature Trivia
game with your children. Children are inquisitive little
people that love to learn in fun ways. Draw up a score
board and see who can get the most trivia questions
correct.
Oh,
and don’t forget about a reward for the winner! We
play with bug stickers, it works great for future
Entomologists. Depending on age, you can also play with
counters, and whoever has the most chips gets to choose
dinner, or better yet, desert.
Answers
to the trivia questions will be posted at the bottom of
the page in the following week’s column.

Did
you Know?
-
The smallest bird in the world is the hummingbird, it
only weighs 1 ounce.
-
The giraffe is the tallest animal in the world,
sometimes reaching 18 feet. It’s
tongue is more than a
foot and a half long at 21 inches!
-
The largest bird egg in the world is that of an ostrich
egg, 6-8 inches long. The average adult male weighs up
to 345 pounds. No wonder they can’t fly. Yikes!
-
An elephant can smell water three miles away. I can
smell pizza twice that far! A pair of nesting barn owls can catch and eat nearly
3,000 rats a year. If it were not for snakes and owls,
we would be over-run by rodents. We would have to call
on the Pied
Piper to get rid of them. So there you have it, animals
are crucial in balancing nature.
