Baby Pets Versus Adult Pets By Darlene Zagata When deciding on choosing a pet most people opt for a baby animal rather than a full-grown adult pet. Kittens and puppies are adorable but there are some things to consider before making a choice. There can be advantages and disadvantages to both. With a younger pet you will need to train them but since you will be raising the animal from a baby it might actually be a bit easier. If a pet grows along with a young child it is more likely to develop a protective bond with the child. Baby pets may be easier to handle and since they are young they love to play which be quite entertaining to watch. A baby pet may also be more attractive to children because of their energy and playful nature.
If rescuing a cat or dog from a pet shelter the animal may or may not have had some training depending upon the previous owners. Some of these pets have come from a home environment in which they may have been mistreated. Many well-behaved and lovable pets can be found in a shelter. All that most of these animals need is a good loving home with someone who is willing to care for them. A pet may seem a bit timid or a little aggressive but this could just be its way of protecting itself particularly if the animal has been abused before.
Bringing home a pet is a commitment. All too often people choose to bring a pet into their lives and then decide they no longer want the animal for any number of reasons. When this happens the homeless pet ends up in a pet shelter where a perfectly good healthy animal may be put to sleep because the shelter is over-populated and insufficiently funded. Whatever type of pet you choose whether it be cat, dog, kitten, puppy or other be certain it is a pet that you are willing to keep and care for. Don't just go out and purchase a pet on a whim. Think it through and make your choice wisely. Remember, a pet is a commitment.
